Built on the footprint of a former chalet bungalow, the project demonstrates how careful planning, coordination, and craftsmanship come together to deliver a high-quality home.

Designed to make the most of its elevated setting and expansive views, Fairview combines strong environmental performance with a considered architectural response to its surroundings. Achieving an EPC A (104A), the house reflects a fabric-first approach supported by integrated low-energy systems. We’re pleased to provide an update on our ongoing project in Seaford, where we are transforming a family home through a major retrofit and constructing a new build property on the same site. This project combines thoughtful design with modern living requirements, creating two very different homes with contemporary functionality and energy-efficient features.

A Family Home Transformed

The retrofit project is reimagining a family home and creating a more open and modern living space. New extensions have been added, alongside a generous attic conversion, which is being turned into a dedicated games room. The home will also feature a roof terrace, offering fantastic outdoor space with sweeping views – a great addition for relaxation or entertaining.

Further enhancing the property is the addition of a gym, office, open plan kitchen dining room, 5 bedrooms, and a double garage, providing ample storage space for the growing family. These updates are designed to make the most of the home’s original layout while delivering the space, light, and modern conveniences needed for contemporary living.

A Sustainable New-Build Home

Meanwhile, a new-build property is taking shape next door. Designed with sustainability in mind, this four bedroom home includes an air-source heat pump, underfloor heating, and high levels of insulation, ensuring it will offer comfortable and energy efficient living for years to come. These environmentally friendly features are aimed at reducing running costs and making the home more sustainable over its lifetime.

Looking Ahead

Both the retrofit and new-build homes are on track for completion this summer, and we’re excited to see the project take shape. It’s been a rewarding process working alongside Sparks Property, and we’re proud of the work that’s been carried out so far.

We are excited to share the completion of Surrey House, our latest project in Cobham. This newly built luxury home replaces an older property and brings a fresh, sophisticated touch to the area.

• Area: 725 m²

Design Highlights

Surrey House was designed to blend traditional and modern elements seamlessly. The façade combines classic Georgian features with a modern edge, using ashlar render to give the exterior a stone-like appearance while maintaining a contemporary feel.

The front elevation is characterised by symmetrical columns, sash windows, and a grand entrance with a sweeping spiral staircase and a striking crystal chandelier.

Modern Features

At the rear, the design shifts to a more modern style. A new extension with a double-height vaulted ceiling houses a spacious kitchen and dining area. Sliding doors open up to the garden and pool area, creating a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor living.

Key Features

The home includes five bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, a gym, and a double garage. The garden features a modern pool and a stylish pool house. Surrey House has not only enhanced the architectural appeal of its site but also positively impacted the local area’s aesthetics and functionality.

We are pleased to share the successful completion of three contemporary, energy-efficient family homes in the coastal city of Brighton. These exceptional homes not only offer breathtaking sea views but also showcase the innovative use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) through volumetric delivery to minimise environmental impact while delivering exceptional quality.

MMC, a revolutionary construction approach, allowed us to fabricate the frames of all three Chamfer Houses off-site, ensuring precision, sustainability, and remarkable time efficiency. We were the technical design architects and saw the project on site and to completion. These new low-energy dwellings demonstrate our commitment to green ethos and design-led architecture, making this project a significant milestone for the company.

The Site and Design

Situated on a sloping hill within a popular neighbourhood of contemporary residential developments, the Chamfer Houses project began with a tired, detached house on a 1180sqm plot of land. The design concept aimed to seamlessly integrate three new houses with a harmonious design aesthetic and material palette. The heights of these houses have been thoughtfully crafted to mediate between neighbouring properties. Additionally, a sunken front driveway, garages, and private terraced gardens at the rear have been ingeniously incorporated to blend with the existing ground levels.

Construction and On-Site Execution

Having previously collaborated with HAPA Architects, the clients were eager to see their vision realised using MMC for its time-saving benefits. The modular construction method allowed the simultaneous progress of module assembly and extensive groundworks, significantly compressing project timelines.

Here are some statistics about the benefits of MMC in the Chamfer Houses project:

– On average MMC is thought to produced between 40% – 80% reduction in waste materials depending the level of offsite prefabrication, modular construction, and the efficiency of the construction process.

– A 30% reduction in overall construction time compared to traditional methods, which not only accelerated project completion but also reduced labour costs.

– A 25% reduction in carbon emissions during the construction phase, contributing to a greener and more sustainable building process.

During the on-site phase, excavation and removal of chalk were necessary for the creation of the sunken front driveway and basement garages. Retaining walls were meticulously constructed, and substructures were built to prepare for the installation of the timber frames. The house frames and sections were prefabricated off-site using volumetric modular timber frame construction at a specialised factory, which ensured precise detailing, airtightness and quality control.

Environmental Impact and Sustainability

We recognise the urgent need for sustainable construction practices. By embracing MMC, the project achieved remarkable environmental benefits, including an 80% reduction in waste materials, resulting in fewer resources consumed and fewer emissions produced. This is particularly significant in an industry where the utilisation of natural resources is extensive, making construction one of the largest consumers of resources in the UK.

Traditional construction methods often contribute to emissions through material production and transportation, as well as significant waste production. In contrast, MMC offers a faster construction pace, making it a preferred choice for meeting deadlines, reducing labor costs, and ultimately minimising waste.
