]]> Black Timber House Welcomes Visitors for Eco Open Homes Event
This September, the Black Timber House in Rodmell was one of 20 energy-efficient homes across the Lewes District to open its doors as part of the highly anticipated Eco Open Homes event. Organised by Ovesco, this event returned for the first time in eight years, drawing some 650 visitors to homes in Barcombe, Lewes, Newhaven, Seaford, and Rodmell, all showcasing innovative approaches to sustainable living.

Black Timber House stood out as a prime example of how modern architecture can integrate with eco-friendly technology. Visitors attending the fully booked tours, led by Stuart Paine, Director at HAPA Architects, explored the award-winning design that features:
  • Air Source Heat Pump: A renewable energy system that efficiently heats and cools the home.
  • Solar PV Panels: Harnessing solar power to reduce reliance on the grid.
  • Whole House Ventilation with Heat Recovery: Ensuring fresh air circulation while maintaining energy efficiency.
  • Sustainable Materials: Built with eco-friendly materials to minimise the home’s carbon footprint.
  • EPC Rating A: A testament to the home’s top-tier energy performance.

During the event, conversations focused on renewable technologies, with many visitors asking questions about heat pumps, insulation, energy-efficient window and water-saving systems. Stuart Paine remarked, “It’s inspiring to see how much interest there is in eco-friendly design and technology. Black Timber House not only showcases sustainable architecture but also demonstrates how beautiful and comfortable energy-efficient homes can be.”

The Eco Open Homes event highlighted the importance of reducing the carbon footprint in the Lewes District, with the goal of installing at least 3,000 heat pumps per year and making 42,000 homes more energy efficient. The enthusiasm from visitors shows that homeowners are increasingly aware of their role in tackling climate change and are eager to implement these technologies in their own homes.
