New House, Lewes

New build house undertaken at previous practice BBM Sustainable Design

The house was located on a very tight plot in Lewes, East Sussex. A dilapidated brick barn was removed to make way for the new house. The dwelling comprises of 3 bedrooms and an office, an ensuite, kitchen/dining/living space, utilities room and wc. The staircase located in the entrance hall is quite impressive with a winding oak stair, black steel handrail and a wrap-over rooflight above. The rooflight is a main feature of the front elevation allowing large amounts of north light into the hall. The front and rear elevations are clad in timber and the gables are brick. The following u-values were achieved for the key elements: Ground bearing slab: 0.11 W/m2K, External walls: 0.15 W/m2K and Roof: 0.11 W/m2K
